March 25, 2015: Mimi & Babu arrive to a tsunami warning, Red Hook, St. Thomas, USVIs

We met Mimi and Babu at the ferry terminal in Red Hook. We had built up their arrival to Finley so much that she was busting at the seams to see them. I don’t think she fully understood what or who “Mimi and Babu” were but she knew to get really excited every time we said, “Are you ready to see Mimi and Babu!” She would start smiling and running around like a crazy woman! She soon found out that all the hype was worth it. icon smile March 25, 2015: Mimi & Babu arrive to a tsunami warning, Red Hook, St. Thomas, USVIs

They arrived without any delays or issues and we headed straight to the bar. Finley was excited to have 4 different laps to crawl on and more people to entertain her. After a few burgers and beers we took my parents to the boat. Since this is now their second time on the boat, they know what to expect and all the “rules” of the homestead. It felt good to have them onboard again.

The next morning my parents stayed and watched Finley while Chris and I headed to the grocery store. Whoo hoo! We had a babysitter and we got to go to K-mart and the grocery store for our big date! It took us about 4 hours but by the end of the day we had a “shit-ton” of diapers, beer and food for the next 14 days.

We had no idea the excitement that happened back on Tumbleweed while we were gone… My parents said it began about 30 minutes after we left. A super loud siren started going off and a live person keep announcing, “This is a tsunami warning! Head to higher ground!” They didn’t know what to do. A guy on the beach started yelling at them to get on the radio and figure out what was going on. My parents looked at each other and yelled back, “This isn’t our boat! We don’t know how to turn on the radio!” They started thinking about ways to get to land and higher ground. They knew that Finley had a life jacket and they started thinking about swimming into the beach. They then noticed that the guy on the boat next to us started to load into his dinghy. But only the guy got into the dinghy and the wife stayed on the boat. This made my parents think that maybe they were going to be ok. They stayed put and said that after about 20 minutes the siren just stopped blowing and the man stopped announcing the “tsunami warning!” I guess all was ok! Welcome aboard Mom and Dad!!
